How to prepare for God’s blessings
Everyone desires to live a happy blessed life. Did you know God desires to bless us in all areas of our lives? His desire is as the Bible says in 3 John 2:3 that we prosper in all things, be in health even as our soul prospers. God is our heavenly father and more than our earthly parents he desires that we have the best in life, Luke 11:13. In Mathew 25: 14-30 talks about the parable of the talents and after reading I noticed that in order for God to release his blessings on anyone, it is two way traffic, from his side he releases his blessings and on our side we get ready to receive it. When I read the passage sometime I asked myself why did God give one five talents, another two and another one? Was God favoring one above the other? I found the answer in verse 15 he gave the according to their personal abilities ,Amplified translation says in proportion to their personal abilities .That meaning he gave them according to how much they could handle or in otherworld according to their capacities. In Isaiah 54:1-3 the promises promotion but the he gives a condition of making room or increasing our capacity for the promotion. That is why so many believers wonder why they do not see God’s promises for their lives coming to pass, it is because when God wants to bless or promises to bless us we have to make room. Since we have seen that the issue of God blessing us depends on our capacities, I would like to see how we can have capacity or increase our capacity for more blessings. Follow me as we look at several requirements on creating a capacity or increasing our capacity.
2. We have to be empty.
Isaiah 43:18-19 the Lord says in verse 19 that is doing a new thing. New thing stands for his blessings, anointing, gifts, talents, or anything we need in life but there is a condition in verse 18,”remember not the former things of old”. So long as we have old stuff in our lives God cannot put new stuff. Even in our daily lives when we want new furniture or new stuff in our houses we have to make room by getting rid of old stuff. There two reasons why the lord wants us to get rid of the old stuff in our lives, one is to have space for the blessings, and second he does not want whatever blessing that come to be contaminated with the old stuff. When the Bible talks of things of old it is the worldly sinful ways. The bible says in 2 Cor.5: 17,”therefore if a man be in Christ is a new creation the old things have passed away..” When talk of the old things they in two categories, one is physical the other is spiritual. Every human being is in three forms, body, soul and spirit. So when we talk of old things or sinful ways they can be found in these three locations in a human being. The first location is the body; here we find the sinful ways are manifest by what we do with our body, e.g. .stealing, lying, fornication, adultery etc. We create capacity by getting rid of all sin that come through the body. The second location comprises of the soul and the spirit. Romans 12:2 say we should we transformed by renewing of our minds. I normally say the reason why many of the children of Israel did not make it to the Promised Land is because though Moses delivered them from Egypt, they were not delivered from Egypt in their minds. So we create capacity also by making sure that our mind is renewed by his word. Egypt stands sinful worldly ways .We must get rid of Egyptian ways from our minds in order for God to bless us .Things like bitterness, lust, un-forgiveness, negative thoughts, evil thoughts, jealousy etc. idol worship. All this are sin that is found in soul or spirit realm of human being. So if there is areas in your life where you find you need renewal, first you have to repent and then you have to apply the word of God. We renew our mind with the word of God hence replacing the old with the word. 1. We have to be new
In Luke 5:33-39 Jesus said,”You cannot put new wine in old wine skins...” He said if you do that, the new wine will burst the old wine skin and that will be a double loss by losing the wine and the wine skin. The new wine stands for heavenly blessings. We see in this scripture that if we get God’s blessings without being prepared or being clean, it can be disastrous. The Bible says he hears the cry of the righteous. That is why the lord withholds his blessings until we are well prepared. A good example in the bible is the prodigal son ,there was nothing wrong about getting his inheritance in fact he told his father to give him what belonged to him, the only problem he asked at the wrong time. He was not mature enough to handle the inheritance; in short he did not have the capacity. That is why he wasted it and at the end he faced disaster in his life. We will share about the prodigal son at another title. The bible says if a man is in Christ he is a new creation the old things have passed away behold all things have become new. That is how we become new by first allowing Jesus in our lives to be our lord and savior. So if you desire to receive God’s blessings, you first must allow him to come into your life. Also if are a backslider you can come back to God as that prodigal son. If you need assistance say this prayer.
